Sodium correction for hyperglycemia

Estimate glucose-adjusted sodium with an explicitly selected published coefficient.

Intended population: Hyperglycemia at or above 100 mg/dL; a physiologic estimate rather than a treatment target.

  • The relationship is nonlinear, especially above glucose 400 mg/dL; neither fixed coefficient is exact. Assess tonicity, volume status and serial laboratory values; this result does not prescribe sodium correction or fluids.
